FAQ's
ANSWER: Some Joysticks seem to make all aircraft appear over-sensitive. There is a parameter to "de-sensitize" joystick inputs. In the FS9.cfg [CONTROLS] Section, add the following statement: stick_sensitivity_mode=0
This will make your joystick inputs more like a flight yoke.
ANSWER: The FS2004/FS9 release will not work in FS2002 as it uses features only available in FS2004. There will be a 2002 version available at major sites after March 11th, 2004. Check back here for release information.
ANSWER (provided by Dogknot): Pick up acsnz.zip and acsndz.zip by Aaron R. Swindle at flightsim.com.
The FS2002 Aero Commander Series Sound Package (acsnz.zip)
sounds great by itself in FS9.
The addition of the FS2004 Aero Commander Series Sound Package (acsndz.zip) to the 2002 package gives the Commander a whole new sound but I prefer to not use this one due to its higher pitch.
ANSWER (provided by Dogknot): If you would like to hear the realism of door sounds in the Commander as they open and close, copy 'door_small_close.wav'
and 'door_small_open.wav' from the default beech_baron_58 sound folder and paste into your favorite Commander sound folder (i.e., the Aaron Swindle package mentioned above).
Then open the Commanders Sound.cfg within the sound folder, scroll down to the [GEAR_DOWN] and [GEAR_UP] headings and paste in the following after
[GEAR_UP]
filename=cmdgearup:
[EXIT_OPEN]
filename=door_small_open
[EXIT_CLOSE]
filename=door_small_close
ANSWER: To stop the flashing beacon in the VC, change this line in the aircraft.cfg [Lights] Section.
light.4=2, -1.1, 0.0, -4.85, fx_strobe ,
{OR} (Contributed by Mark Salt-thank you Mark :-)
Download a new beacon fx for the Commander HERE and save to your FS9/Effects folder. Then change the light statement mentioned above to this:
light.4=1, -1.1, 0.0, -4.85, fx_beacon_commander.fx ,
ANSWER: In the panel.cfg:
For the 2D panel in section Window00, add this line at the bottom:
gauge55=SimIcons!ATC Icon, 528, 301, 17, 17
For the virtual cockpit model, in section Vcockpit04, add this line at the bottom:
gauge15=SimIcons!ATC Icon, 725, 18, 31, 31

4. Cargo Version FS9: Frame Rates suffer in 2D cockpit after viewing VC:
This replacement panel.cfg optimized settings to improve fps substantially. We found several weird anomalies that caused the frame hits relative to gauge sizes. Try this for an easy fix. Download, unzip and place the panel.cfg in your AC500CA1/Panel.VC folder.

Secondly, the 3 main textures in the 3 folders are 32-bit. This to me is unnecessary and these should be converted to DXT3. They are fuse560.bmp, wings_t.bmp, and nacellesall_t. bmp.
By converting them to DXT3 you save 7 MB which may help some. Additionally, on the two dirty textures, the nacellesall_t.bmp can be reduced in size from 1024X1024 to 512X512. This would save another .75MB
Also, in the sim, shift+2 eliminates the bugs on the windshield and improves fps.
If you still need more help, comment out the vcockpit2 and vcockpit5 sections of the panel.cfg. This should not be necessary with this new panel.cfg, but it may help you.
